Sweeter than sugar

Hello from DC!
I've been on my spring break this past week. What better way to spend it than in Washington DC?
If you are curious as in to why I am in DC, no worry, I will explain.
I came here for multiple reasons:

• Visit family
• College visit
• Senior Project
• Fun

Senior Project? Yes, as a senior in my tiny school located in the middle of nowhere, every senior
has to complete a senior project on a topic. My topic was "Becoming a Pastry Chef". I have to type an essay along with a research paper, and at the end of the school year, I have to present it. Before I bored you out (hopefully you are still reading this), I took the opportunity of the location to visit pastry shops. Oh boy did I eat lots of cupcakes and canolis. Not that I am complaining because it was delicious.

If you understood what I wrote above, then you definitely get a golden star! :)
For those who did not understand my jibberish, I attempted to type in Spanish. You would think I would be a pro since I was born in Peru (new fact!), but no. After 9? years of learning the English language,my Spanish knowledge has faded away.

I wanted to apologize for the delay of my latest blog. To say the least, these past few weeks have been busy. As a summary, I would like to share some of my thoughts:

• "Biggest Lesson" of the week: Lesson #249: do not wear the jean that is sitting on top of a basket, there might be a reason why it's not in your drawers! For ex.: hole :|
• "Creepy/Scary Moment" of the week: Misunderstandings can lead to nasty words. =\
  
• "Lucky Me" of the week: When all doors close, check the the window because chances are, it's open :)
• "Failure" of the week: skipping the procrastinators meeting because I was too lazy. ;)

Is it just me or does watching the Winter Olympics really make you wish you could be that extraordinary in a sport like skating (or in general)?
Because we had such a cold weather for the past few days, everything was cover in ice. My instincts were to skate outside and imagine as if I were a professional ice skater. So this afternoon, instead of staying warm inside, I went outside to play in the ice.
I felt like a kid again. :)

There is a really famous blog from a guy (Running from Camera) who takes pictures in random places.
His idea behind it is to run as far as he can within 2 seconds. I decided to try it, but did not go that far. I admire his sprinting skills! haha

ooopsie.

Sugar Cookies

I am VERY original with my blog titles that I think I might just deserve a blog award! =]

Yesterday, the 19th, a very good friend of mine turn 18 years old.
I decided to bake her some sugar cookies.

But not just your regular sugar cookies,

these were vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free sugar cookies!

Royal frosting looks like paint. Hmm it is a type of artwork.

Lesson learned: when the directions tell you to Roll the dough in circles, just do it.
Or else they look like muffin tops, hence the picture below.
ooops

Thank goodness for the frosting, it makes up for the odd shapes.

For those who are math geeks out there, one of the cookies has a math equation.

Sigma of x divided by (alyssa) square. Then it says: U=A, Du=C (*Using U substitution) .

As in Alyssa derivative is Crazy. AKA "Alyssa (or You) drives me crazy"

It's my senior year in high school, and like many other seniors, I have been applying for scholarships for months now. I don't mind filling out the information packets, but when it comes to the essays, I really (REALLY) dread them! It is a huge advantage if you can write well, but it's a huge disadvantage for those who struggle with English.

Anyway, my mom always told me that you don't lose anything from trying. Umm, hello, what about time? Just kidding. So I listened to her, and I've been writing essays for months now.

Today I got a letter in the mail from one of the scholarships I signed up, and you know, I got a bit anxious to see what was inside. I was hoping for an awesome thousand dollar scholarship, but that's not what I found.

Actually, I found something hilarious.

A ten dollar check!
Hahah. Was my essay that bad that they pity me? nah, I just think they wanted to prove a point. That anyone who attempts deserves a reward.
That was nice of them!
If only all scholarships did that....I would be rich!
